We caught up with Kate Winslet, actress and ambassador for Longines, in Paris and talked about time, self-love and women.
Oscar and Golden Globe winner Kate Winslet is not only one of the most famous actresses of our time, but also the ambassador of the Swiss watch brand Longines for seven years. We were able to meet the actress in Paris for an interview and talk with her about punctuality, apologies and the women who marked her.
In everyday life, are you more of a punctual person or always late?
I’m always punctual for work, but otherwise I’m always late: whether it’s to see my parents, a dinner with friends or a hair removal appointment. But I like this feature because I don’t fit the British cliché at all. After all, my husband is punctual.
And what is your excuse for being late?
I’m really sorry, but I was held in my car behind a tractor and I couldn’t pass it! No kidding, that’s the excuse I give every time. And it works.
When do you disconnect completely, to forget the time?
In fact, there is nothing for which I completely forget the time. But while shooting my latest movie, “Avatar 2,” I had to learn to hold my breath underwater for over seven minutes. With the help of a coach, I trained intensively to slow my heart rate and bring my body and mind down. There is something very meditative about this process.
In a recent interview in The Guardian, you said you felt cooler approaching 40 than when you were 20. What is the reason?
I became more satisfied with myself, my family and my job. But the world has also changed a lot during this time, especially for women. Probably even more radically than ever before. Women today have many more opportunities to be what they want, to say what they think and to dress as they feel good. Whatever their age.
It’s a change I love and have wanted for us women since I was twenty. The film industry is also changing. Admittedly, the road is still long and strewn with pitfalls, but there are more and more roles for women of forty, fifty or even seventy years old. Thanks to my evolution and that of the world, I feel today, at 46, in the prime of life.
Who are the women who have influenced you the most over the years?
Clearly, my friends. I’m incredibly lucky to have very close friends who don’t work in the film industry. We all change, we grow old, we have to face new problems. This is why it is all the more pleasant to have friends around you who are in the same situation as us and who are there for us.
