Motorhome or camper van: what are the differences?
First of all, it is necessary to differentiate between these different types of recreational vehicles. A camping car is based on a utility vehicle chassis, but generally retains only its cabin (the cockpit): at the rear, there is a cell to accommodate the fittings and equipment for living there. There are several types of motorhomes: integral, low-profile, or alcove models.
The fitted vans or vans are commercial vehicles (initially intended for the transport of goods or people), which have been transformed to accommodate the interior fittings. The exterior body remains intact, but some equipment can be added to it, such as a pop-up roof offering additional sleeping space.

Motorhome or camper van: a question of size
The main difference between a motorhome and a camper van is their dimensions. If you are looking for a compact model, which will have no trouble weaving through traffic, in town or in a car park, the fitted van is ideal: it rarely exceeds 7 meters in length, and there are models compact around 5 meters, for about 2 meters wide and high.
Camper vans also have the advantage of being discreet, which means you don’t draw too much attention to yourself. Motorhomes are larger: even if there are compact models around 6 meters long, there are other models that can exceed 10 meters! For the benefit, you will have understood, of the space on board and the quantity of on-board equipment.

Motorhome or campervan: and the price?
If you have a small budget, campervans are the most accessible models : Indeed, you can easily find models around 40,000 euros, while some fitters specialize in even more compact models, such as Camperiz, which offers a Renault Kangoo fitted out for a price of around 30,000 euros.
Of course, the additional options and equipment will always have the effect of increasing the bill. Motorhomes are more expensive, and often sell for more than 50,000 euros. On the consumption side, fitted vans also take the advantage: more compact and therefore lighter, they consume less fuel. A significant point in these times of record price increases at the pump…
