Electric car: these public charging stations which are sorely lacking in Wallonia

First in a ranking whose top 3 is dominated solely by plug-in cars, the BMW X1 PHEV and its 23 grams of CO² emissions were particularly convincing during the second half of the year. This is mainly due to the upcoming changes in terms of taxation.

“The X1 was already a company favourite, but in this new low-CO2 version, this plug-in hybrid SUV which, from a tax perspective, is as advantageous for companies in terms of deductibility as it is for workers in terms of benefits of all kinds, is doing almost as well as a fully electric car,” explains Yves Ceurstemont, director of Arval.

Already well represented in the choices made in the first half of 2022, the fully electric SUV ID.4 from Volkswagen and the EQA from Mercedes complete the podium. Which does not surprise Arval for whom these are “models which remain very popular worldwide”.

In a market where gasoline and diesel engines accounted for only a third of orders placed last year with Arval, two classics equipped with a heat engine are in the top 10 of 2022: the Peugeot 308 and the BMW 1 series.

“The enthusiasm for the 308 SW and the 1 series is explained by the fact that, in their market segment, there were very few electric alternatives, although several brands are gradually starting to offer an electric estate model. in their range, continues Yves Ceurstemont. In the second half of 2022, for example, we have seen certain types of all-electric sedans gain popularity. Once electrification has won over other car models, with manufacturers now focusing primarily on the famous SUVs, this will ultimately be reflected both in the figures and on the roads. »

“Given that taxation will penalize from mid-2023 all new vehicles that are not entirely electric” – employers will have to pay the CO2 tax, multiplied by a certain factor, for any new car with CO2 emissions -, Arval still expects a significant increase in orders for battery electric vehicles in the coming months.

“Provided the PHEV is used wisely, it may still be worth ordering it until June 31, 2023. Due to their low CO2 emissions, their deduction is tax-efficient and the calculation of the benefit all nature remains attractive. But from July 1, all company cars with C02 emissions will be tax-sanctioned. There is therefore no doubt that the number of plug-in cars ordered over the next 12 months will increase,” said the director of the company specializing in leasing. An impression shared by Renta, the Belgian Federation of vehicle rental companies: “From mid-2023, we expect a further 80% increase in electric cars due to the change” in taxation.
