Whether it’s stars like Kylie Jenner and Khloé Kardashian, actresses like Bella Thorne (“OC California”) and Chloé Cherry (“Euphoria”), or celebrities who have made a name for themselves on TV shows- reality and to Instagram: today it is difficult to miss the extremely luscious lips, on social networks.

This new ideal of beauty makes more and more clients ask to have this doll look.

dangerously large

In English-speaking countries, the expression “exploded lips”, that is to say lips which explode, has become common for this type of case. And even if, on the aesthetic level, the look remains a pure matter of taste, from a medical point of view, there are limits to be respected. Dr. Ranieri Mazzei is an FMH specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery at the Zurich beauty institute Fineskin explains to us what the risks are with XXL lips.

“In principle, hyaluron injections in the lips are considered low risk,” says the surgeon. “But for that, it has to be done by a trained doctor.” The problem is that serious providers do not perform these procedures, the results of which are unnatural.

Dr. Mazzei himself clarifies, “If someone comes to me with a desire to increase their lip size exaggeratedly, I reserve the right to refuse such patients.”

Watch out for fans

What happens then can be dangerous. In Switzerland, beauticians are not officially authorized to practice injections, but abroad, the regulations are different. “Without the necessary training, the risk of bruising is higher. People who are unfamiliar with the anatomy of the body can touch blood vessels during the injection and trigger an embolism. Necroses (note: tissue damage) are also possible”.

No turning back

But problems can also arise from an aesthetic point of view. Besides the asymmetrical results that just don’t please, you also have to think about durability. “If you fill your lips heavily, you can’t go back,” warns the expert.

“We certainly have the option of dissolving fillers. However, the strongly stretched skin remains, makes folds or can hang”. We can’t find his lips from before. Dr. Mazzei puts it clearly: “The lips will look worse than before the procedure.”

Go step by step

That is why a professional not only looks at what is possible, but also evaluates the lips according to the whole face. “I always look at how the lips fit with the eyes, the nose and the shape of the face. I would never use several doses of hyaluron at the same time to obtain super luscious lips overnight,” explains the specialist.

If in doubt, it is therefore always best to go gradually and wait to see if you feel good on a daily basis with your new lips before increasing their volume again.
